2018 Who-Ha

Who-Ha is a performance dance piece that showcases feminine hygiene, feminine characteristics, and feminine oppositions in pop culture that are fueled by the straight, socially constructed male gaze. The piece opens by asking audience members to take ownership or control over their own individual body by having them write down rules that they themselves follow within daily practice and everyday life. One can only do damage and harm to themselves if one chooses to be blind to the space in which they function daily. The piece is left to make you question gender, identity, empowerment, and what I call everyday performance persona.

About the Company
Anthony Alterio is a choreographer, performer, and an emerging dance educator.  Currently on faculty in the Theatre & Dance Department at the University of Kentucky, he explores representations of effeminate gay men in pop culture as part of a larger interest in how dancers present themselves. Anthony is a native of Pittsburgh, and he began his professional dance training at The University of Colorado-Boulder, where he received a BA double-majoring in Dance and Psychology and went on to attain an MFA in Dance from the University of Michigan. Upon graduation, he won the Maggie Allesee Choreography award and since has been showing work across the US. He also has been a guest artist/teacher at numerous festivals, workshops, and colleges. Anthony pushes extremes on stage as an artist, and brings that energy to his teaching hoping to create a sense of excitement and enjoyment for all who embody and view dance.
