Pittsburgh-based artist Johnross creates the unusual and exhilarating using common, recycled materials. His exceptional paintings, sculptures and furniture have their genesis in metal scraps, discarded fixtures, broken furniture, industrial machines, old doors, auto parts, appliance and electronics.
Johnross’ unique approach to visual creation is the result of many years of perfecting his craft. His woodworking and metal welding background serves as a foundation for hand-stretched canvases (of any material and size) and furniture pieces. His extensive experimenting with all types of paints and polymers — and their chemical reactions — brings life and an urban feel to everything he designs. His passion for all things art is evidenced by his founding of gallery and performance spaces in New York City and Pittsburgh. Again, with an outlook to bring the worn back to life, Johnross has refurbished and customized warehouses that offer all types of artists the chance to be represented — from art displays and musical concerts to fashion shows and live performances. The venues also serve as the perfect place for photo shoots, movie making, gatherings and more due to their size and set up. Johnross has regular showings in the Pittsburgh area and NYC. He also has featured permanent installations at retail and real estate locations in downtown Pittsburgh and has been hired for numerous commissioned pieces. He has a BFA from Youngstown State University and an Associate’s degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
