UNPLAYABLE CHARACTERS: Art and Stuff
by David C. Mueller

Rating: Unrated  (Pennsylvania)
Genre: Visual Art & Performance Art
In his latest exhibition, “Unplayable Characters,” David C. Mueller brings his playful, illustrative style to the table for his first solo show in Pittsburgh. The work is inspired by the pop culture that David experienced throughout his life and is grounded in traditional painting and printmaking techniques.

David strives to make his work accessible. It is complex enough to create intrigue, while remaining tangible; it builds the ego of the audience while remaining humble itself; and it works to be the envy of the snobbish while being affordable to the masses.

Prints and paintings will be available for sale at the exhibit as well as a chance to meet and greet the artist.

About the Artist:
Currently working and residing in Pittsburgh, PA, born and raised in Wisconsin, I am a cheese-eating, beer-drinking and overall working-class kind of artist.

I attended the Peck School of the Arts at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, where I found painting to be my medium of choice, at first oil on canvas, but now primarily acrylic on wood.

I mostly use found and/or recycled wood as painting surfaces. Sometimes found in resale shops and sometimes found on the curb, the hunt is part of the process and the condition of the wood contributes to the aesthetic of the finished works. Doors, drawers and other construction remnants supply the setting to my stories and live on to inspire a few more of their own…
And to be honest, it’s an affordable way for me to keep making artwork that happens to prevent a few things from being thrown away.

Since graduating with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts,
I have successfully exhibited my work both locally and internationally, showcasing the themes of an individual raised on Saturday morning cartoons, inspired by the day to day and grounded in traditional painting and printmaking techniques.

As an artist, my personal and professional work focuses on narrative. My goal is to advance and legitimize concepts of visual storytelling by making accessible narratives.

The yarns I spin are for all. They are there in an attempt to interweave audiences with a smile and illustrate the importance of art in our everyday lives.
